love the patients and the teaching. Meh about the management - Staff RN Harborview Medical Center Employee Review

Pros

Trauma is a rush. It's great to work with people who really need the care and are getting it without a runaround. The providers are top notch and truly are invested in doing their best work. Being around teaching all the time means you are learning all the time, which is a huge plus for me. And there is a very collegial attitude there, leading to unparalleled teamwork and lasting friendships.

Cons

Chronically understaffed. Top management is distant and politically driven. There are 5 managing groups: the hospital, the county, the university, the city and the state. With that many chefs, the sauce will never get cooked, and if it does, the seasoning is bound to be off. Nepotism is rife.

Pros

For the most part you can trust almost everyone on the security team to help each other out when needed. The job is very confrontational and it is a blessing to have a team you can trust. The current director at the time of my review is amazing, supports us the best and can while listening to every concern. Doing his best to improve our work life balance.

Cons

Supervisors, especially some of the day shift supervisors call out so much you might only see them once a pay period. Leads to a few pay issues but otherwise the biggest con is the high risk of injury.

Pros

Immediate Benefits upon hire. Raises seem to occur annually. Fast paced working environment.

Cons

Parking is expensive and crowded. Public Transportation may be necessary to commute to and from home/work.
