Cons

If you research the company you’ll see a plethora of interviews detailing its 0-20 million success story, but the reality of working at Happy Skin Co is not so “Happy”, but rather grim and depressing. The office, which is situated on a highway, features a team of 2 plus the founder and his relative. There are many cons working at Happy Skin Co and rarely any pros. -No career development, your role and title will/may change at any moment the founders feel like changing it -Employees are treated very poorly - spoken down to, spoken with profanity in meetings, while expected to have ‘entrepreneurial attitudes’ and working late for the company without reaping any rewards or acknowledgement, there’s no clear direction or goal for business so employees lack direction and communication is never clear. -Deadlines are always given last minute so you’re always rushing -Founders are hardly in the office, so you’re left with zero direction and lack of approvals despite following up numerous times -They have zero interest in employee welfare or wellbeing - no team building, no activities, no work perks and no career development initiatives -High turnover of staff and couple of redundancies for a very small team -Horrible team culture - never celebrating wins, no early marks, no drinks after work.. Nothing normal you’d experience in most positive and uplifting workplaces! -You’re looked down on and branded lazy if you leave at 5pm - as founders often even make agencies and employees work late nights, weekends etc -Micromanaging galore -Poor facilities and working conditions - monitors don’t work, laptops and mouse missing batteries and cords -Office is very unclean and dirty - infested with flies, maggots and spiders and one shared bathroom for men and women that is rarely cleaned and sanitised -Open and awkward conversations about shoddy business practices are common -Employee security is used as a bargaining chip. During COVID, employees were threatened to be made redundant in meetings by hinting ‘job seeker is ending soon’ If you do your research you will also find that founders share disrespectful content on Instagram that mocks 9-5 workers - the very employees that run their business successfully - while they work minimal hours.
