Pros

Pay, experience, connections. The project management system is very effective and well designed. The pay is quite good in comparison with similar roles. You work with other great professionals at adjacent companies very often which offers good potential for networking.

Cons

This company is growing much too quickly. Management has an atrociously long list of responsibilities which they refuse to delegate to others, which leads to having insufficient time to properly manage the company and most importantly it's employees. Management is based in Pennsylvania, and seems unable to figure out how to train/support PM's from a distance. That combined with the difficulty of miscellaneous metals in commercial construction and the intricacy of their Project Management system, it's like being handed an owner's manual for a car, and being expected to be able to take the car apart and put it back together within a few weeks, with the least amount of assistance as possible. Another unfortunate characteristic is the General Manager who is a real "pressure makes pearls" kind of guy. Rather than communicating concerns and finding individual solutions, he will simply put an almost un-professional tone of pressure on an employee in hopes that they rise to the occasion, or move on due to feeling the pressure. All in all, you have to be such a self-starter, that you are willing to teach yourself how to do this job, while being expected to do the job. Last "con" I'll mention, is that PM's are subject to a "Production Meeting" every two weeks. which is essentially a performance review with all of senior management in attendance, including the President of the company. Most companies do this once a year or once a quarter, however Hanover Iron Works performs this examination every two weeks.

Great place to work. Employees are given a chance to advance and are treated fairly. Employees are given responsibilities and are not micromanaged.

Cons

Fast paced, constantly changing environment. Miscellaneous metals isn’t for everyone.
