Pros

Strong corporate culture, company growth and a good, well-structured training programme for juniors. Good level of staffing in head office with decent exposure to senior professionals. High quality mid-level managers at the VP to Principal level. Well known with a great industry reputation acting as a fantastic springboard into the PE industry. Decent work life balance after a few years of grinding.

Cons

Confusing senior management structure with lots of internal restructuring for no clear reason. Very uncompetitive compensation and bonuses lead to high junior turnover, where departing professionals can expect to double total comp with a negligible impact on workload or balance. Management are aware of this and have been slow to make changes. Benefits are poor and set centrally by an utterly incompetent HR department. Large wealth divide between pre and post-ipo shareholders. Head office in the middle of nowhere and a very US-centric attitude for a global company.

Pros

Great people are found throughout. The work is interesting and impactful and the experience valuable. It is an industry known name and has come a long way to match formerly dominant peers. It’s a good firm to get industry exposure. Work life balance is the best part of working here, but it comes at a price.

Cons

Are you male, Caucasian, condescending, and have a tall horse you ride on? Well then please do apply. This place is increasingly homogenous, and females especially, are exiting in droves but many are being forced out. The politics permeate through every level and merit based performance is only partly rewarded. Managers are silenced because they have to fall in line or they will suffer as well. Those that do fall in line and fit the prescribed mold, are very identifiable. Aside from this, the industry low pay does not warrant the passive aggressive abuse that has infiltrated and infected the firm. It’s a good place to learn but an even better place to use as a skipping stone.
