Pros

Staff who provide services are great. Some terms and conditions are good - depends what your job is and where you work.

Cons

Where to start? NOT a great place to work although they keep telling you it is, poor managers at every level, toxic and bullying culture, employees afraid to speak up.

We are sorry you feel this way but we would like to make it clear that we can find no merit in the claim you make above - we do not encourage employees to write reviews after away days as you have suggested. We have in the past sent one email to the whole organisation to highlight that colleagues can use Glassdoor as a method to provide feedback - in addition to several other mechanisms that we have in place for our colleagues to raise concerns at work. To support the development of our employees our academi offers a range of learning and development opportunities at every point in their career - this includes leadership development for those who have not yet managed but may become line managers in future up to programmes designed for senior leaders and directors in conjunction with University of South Wales.

Pros

The teams here, especially the ones that I had the pleasure of working with are extremely hard working. And approachable until you hit a certain level of the company.

Cons

The company that talks a big game about culture and values, but behind the scenes it’s a complete mess driven by a serious lack of leadership. There’s no clear direction, no accountability, and decisions feel like they’re made on a whim by a selected members of the senior group who seem totally out of touch with what’s actually happening on the ground. The most frustrating part is the blatant double standards. One rule for some people, completely different rules for others. Favouritism isn’t even subtle anymore, it’s expected. They recently made a big show of making redundancies “to save money” and told everyone how tough the financial situation was… yet at the exact same time, a select few people higher up were quietly given pay rises. It’s incredibly demoralising to watch colleagues lose their jobs while others are rewarded. The message it sends is awful and people throughout Hafod have not forgotten it. There is also zero progression unless you’re in the inner circle. Hard work and loyalty don’t seem to count for anything. Training and development is talked about but rarely actually happens, and when you do ask for support you’re made to feel like you’re asking for too much. Annual leave has been cancelled or changed with little regard for people’s personal lives, and again, it depends who you are as to whether the rules apply to you or not. Morale is very low. People are scared to speak up because they’ve seen what happens to those who do. There’s a real culture of keeping your head down and saying nothing if you want an easy life.
