Pros

One of the pros of working at HII is that the company does have the potential for extraordinary opportunities. There are chances for growth, development, and involvement in significant projects, especially since they heavily support national defense. If you can navigate the challenges, you may find opportunities to build a strong career in a field that has a tangible impact on the country. There’s much potential to work on cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with skilled professionals, and contribute to essential government contracts. For the right person, it could be a chance to make a meaningful difference while advancing in your career.

Cons

My experience at HII has been highly frustrating. If you value DEI, this is the company for you. However, it feels like they prioritize diversity numbers over experience. They don’t hire based on qualifications or skillset; it’s more about who you know. It is unpleasant because the focus is on ticking boxes rather than correctly completing the job. The leadership here is lacking. Management doesn’t seem to have the necessary qualities to lead effectively, and the whole place operates more like a poorly run encampment than a professional workplace. It often feels like they’re more interested in filling seats with warm bodies than ensuring the work is done right. The company seems to have a pattern of wasting government funds, and I’ve seen it firsthand. I’ve managed other government jobs and worked in different capacities, but nothing has been handled poorly like this. I’ve also seen that employees aren’t happy here. According to a 2024 Gallup poll, 93% of employees weren’t satisfied with their current circumstances, yet the company is still trying to change things by blaming subordinates rather than addressing leadership issues. The turnover rate is ridiculously high, and it seems they’re not making the right changes to improve things.

Pros

Remote Work, Flex Schedule, Benefits are decent enough.

Cons

It is very much a boys club between management, leads, and HR. HR is there to protect the company, not you. The moment you have something crazy happen (and you will because most people in positions of power are old retired navy guys who cant even work a computer usually and would rather praddle on about "the good ole days") and you report it to HR, you immediately will be retaliated against, even when HR says you wont. Its tough to say how you wont when they immediately inform your supervisor. I also hate how they are an "inclusive" company, and yet I have been called more slurs and received more backlash for being LGBT when its not even being presented, I just want to log in, work, ask questions, log off.
