Pros

Great teammates/staff at every level! Supportive and Ethical Administration including folks in HR and Finance. Well-kept facilities. Staff live the mission for the most part. The work can be hard, but most staff are there for the right reasons. Great benefits!

Cons

Like all Human Services organizations, they tend to struggle to be competitive on pay.

Pros

The Guild has some of the most dedicated employees from direct care staff through administrators. They have a vision of community inclusion and excellence in functional life skills education across all environments and are working diligently to obtain that. Most notably they are relentless in ensuring all students/individuals are provided with autonomy in decision making for their own lives. This doesn't come without challenges. In this field every expertise has a voice, and sometimes those voices do not agree. Ultimately, the best part of working at the Guild is that the voice that matters most is the student/individual. If you want to challenge your own internal thinking, biases, and expertise about disabilities, as well as learn about quality of life and human rights. This is the place!

Cons

This work is hard and that is no different in this setting.

Pros

The Guild for Human Services is staffed with people who genuinely care about helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live fulfilling lives. The employees are supportive of one another, and I haven't seen any instance of neglect.

Cons

With that being said, this job will physically and emotionally exhaust you on most days. Yes, they are fun moments with the students. However, you will be forced to restrain students who are ill-behaved every single week. Students will often refuse to follow directions unless prompted. The educational quality at the school is rather mediocre. To be fair, this isn't the fault of the educators or The Guild. Most of these students don't have the capabilities to undergo a rigorous learning process, and the teacher assistants are glorified babysitters. They rarely learn anything in the classroom, and social interaction amongst the students is entirely nonexistent in some classrooms. As a result, this job can be immensely frustrating at times.
