Pros

The team are really friendly young minds with a strong aptitude to learn. For many this is their first job and only work environment they know. There are some interesting clients

Cons

Unfortunately all of this is coupled with a high turnover rate and micromanagement meaning that the remaining team are constantly over worked to continue to deliver committed work. The benefits and work environment aren’t as described or competitive in 2023 and the working style leads to team members constantly being called out publicaly for any errors.

First off, a thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s valuable for us to hear feedback. It’s great to hear that you found our team welcoming and full of talented people. We’re proud of the team we have here at Gripped and the learning environment we’ve all built together. Working in a dynamic, fast-growing agency like ours can indeed be incredibly rewarding, yet it can also present steep learning curves and a brisk pace. We're committed to a culture of active feedback – giving and receiving it openly and encouraging dialogue in the office. We believe this approach drives excellence, both in our team and in the service we provide to our customers. Regarding staff turnover, we're aware that this is a crucial metric and one that we see as critical. Our turnover rate over the past year has been 12%, which is significantly lower than the industry average of 25%-32%. We take this as a testament to our dedicated team, whose hard work, effort, and intelligence are the driving forces behind ours and our customer success. As for the benefits and work environment, we're concerned to hear that there were aspects you found lacking. Continuous improvement in these areas is important to us. So we regret that we didn't have the opportunity to address any shortcomings you perceived during your tenure. We're committed to ensuring that our benefits and work environment are not only competitive but also genuinely valued by our team. If you’re open to discussing your experiences further, we’d would welcome the chance to learn more. Please feel free to reach out to either of us.

I can't think of anything specific to dislike about the company.

Cons

- Outdated company culture glorifies long hours and working until burnout, managers frequently work weekends and team work evenings to get tasks completed - “Flexible” hybrid working policy isn’t practiced, working from home is discouraged - Pay isn’t competitive so they hire a young team - No real socialising unless you drink and are the same age as the team - No HR department or mental health first aider

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and for calling out the strengths of the team, we agree they’re talented and supportive. It's worthwhile addressing the cons head on. We don’t celebrate long hours and we don’t expect weekend work. Peaks happen around urgent client issues and are part of agency life, but they’re the exception, not the rule. When extra time is unavoidable, we expect managers to plan better next time and to offer time off in lieu. We actively coach against “always on” behaviour. Our policy is hybrid by default and remote days are standard. We ask people to be in when collaboration or training benefits from it (client workshops, onboarding, quarterly planning), but discouraging working from home is not our policy. If that was your experience in the team, we would have like to know when you were here so we could address it. We’re a small business. We don’t run a traditional HR department and don’t need one at our size. Founders and managers handle people matters directly, with clear 1:1s, feedback cycles and access to external advice when specialist input is required. As we grow, we keep investing in manager development and capacity planning. Sometimes don't work out the way you want, expect or hope for. We’re not perfect, but we keep improving and keep moving forward. If you’re open to it, contact the founders directly so we can understand the specifics behind your comments.
