Over time, many of the benefits were gradually reduced. HR appeared to be caring but often redirected employees to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The founders tended to see themselves as the most knowledgeable individuals. Management claimed to be open to new ideas and improvements but were often overwhelmed or held the belief that working there was a privilege; if employees disagreed, they were encouraged to leave. The marketing team frequently misrepresented the company's practices—such as claiming to have an all-electric or hybrid fleet, which was not true. They also boasted about living environmentally responsible by having solar panels and wind turbines at the office, but this was misleading since they rented the building and later moved to another rental downtown. The company regularly experienced delays in paying bills, often justifying this by stating they had good relationships with their vendors despite being 4-6 months behind. Although they claimed to operate transparently, new policies were often introduced unexpectedly during monthly staff meetings, leaving little opportunity for employees to voice concerns. I personally experienced intimidation when attempting to raise issues about policy changes. While the company considered itself highly moral, it permitted activities such as gambling, drinking, and marijuana use at company events, showing little regard for colleagues who may have addiction issues.
