Pros

Greenshield is a large company, so I limit my review to working as a software engineer as part of an acquired tech company (inkblot). I have to say the company is fine to work for. If you really need a job, go for it, people are respectful and you will get paid on time. Pay is average for software developers. I love my team-mates, they are positive and smart and great to work with. When I worked as an Inkblot employee, we attracted great people. I've enjoyed my time here, but unfortunately, many talented and driven people are now leaving as a result of slashing PTO & a poorly rolled-out hybrid RTO policy.

Cons

- 3 weeks PTO until 7 years is meagre in the tech industry in Canada. - 3 days/week hybrid RTO within 150km of an office is unreasonable for commuting in the GTA. - No annual COL increase and unclear career paths are not inspiring. - Top down and hands-off leadership is not inspiring. - Tech & product leadership is done by contractors. - C-suite seems very out of touch with the tech industry & tech industry employee benefits. - I started as an Inkblot employee and company culture has cratered since we were integrated with Greenshield. - We never see any senior leadership unless they are adding toxic positivity and evaporate as soon as anything negative needs to be communicated. Cue the HR drones stepping in. - Greenshield HR and senior leadership has shown that they are out of touch with the tech industry after presenting a Total Rewards with almost across the board reduction or the same benefits for all acquired software devs & product people. - Greenshield slashed PTO for acquired tech workers (3 weeks max before 7 years), no negotiation and a very obtuse announcement left me feeling very disrespected. I heard this echoed from many colleagues.

Thank you for your feedback. At GreenShield, we prioritize creating a culture where employees feel valued and have the opportunity do meaningful work impacting the lives of Canadians. We conducted extensive research when designing our new Total Rewards package and are proud our offering is highly competitive across the board as it ranks near the top of group of the largest companies in Canada when it comes to paid time off, holidays, volunteer days, professional development opportunities, just to name a few. It is also market leading across areas that are core to us at GreenShield including metal health (with employees and their eligible dependents having up to $10K a year for mental health services), inclusion and social impact. Collaboration is an important part of our culture, and a hybrid work approach offers GreenShielders the flexibility to work remotely up to three days a week, while connecting with each other in the office for two days. We’re proud of the many growth opportunities available at GreenShield and encourage you to partner with your leaders on a personalized development plan to explore these options. Many of our tech employees, for example, have advanced in their area of expertise or moved into leadership positions. Thank you for your input and we encourage you to please reach out to your people leader with any further feedback or questions.

Pros

GreenShield is one of the few organizations where purpose genuinely drives decision-making. The mission of improving health outcomes and advancing Better Health for All is woven into the culture, not simply used in marketing materials. The people are highly collaborative, values-driven, and committed to making a meaningful impact on Canadians' health and well-being. Leadership encourages innovation, continuous learning, and employee growth while fostering an environment where diverse perspectives are welcomed. One of GreenShield’s greatest strengths is its People and Culture team. The HR function operates as a true strategic partner to the business while maintaining a deep commitment to employee experience and well-being. The team is progressive, caring, and focused on creating an environment where people can do their best work. From leadership development and talent programs to wellness initiatives and culture-building efforts, the People and Culture team consistently demonstrates what modern, purpose-driven HR should look like. The organization is also undergoing an exciting transformation, creating opportunities to shape strategy, influence change, and contribute to work that has a measurable social impact. Employees are encouraged to give back to their communities, and there is a strong emphasis on wellness, flexibility, and supporting the whole person.

Cons

As with any organization navigating significant growth and transformation, priorities can evolve quickly, which can occasionally create ambiguity or require teams to adapt at a rapid pace.
