Pros

Most coworkers were so much fun to be with. Everyone was usually in a good mood. Relatively easy work. Adjusted schedule while in college. Employee picnic and $10 holiday gift card.

Cons

Hours would switch from morning (why do employees at a retail "nonprofit" store begin work at 8 a.m.?) to night constantly. It makes no sense to get out of work at 9 p.m. and have to return the next morning at 8. "Safety first" and other annoying junk that wastes time you could be using to do your work. Insulting performance review where you can't achieve a five out of five for anything and are made to feel useless to the company; I quit not long afterward. Monthly meeting (again, pointless) on SUNDAY morning where all employees must come in for no reason for two hours, even if they don't work that day. Those who are scheduled simply have to work a 10-hour day on a day when it seems like a nonprofit should be closed. Rude, degrading, unprofessional manager. Coworkers joked about manager's untidy appearance and how off-putting it was. Manager would go outside for cigarette breaks multiple times a day while employees ran the store. Back room reeked of smoke. Manager never showed appreciation for employees. Some useless coworkers who did relatively nothing all day but talk to siblings and other workers about video games and world history. How they got paid is a mystery. Feeling that you are undervalued. Wage is pathetic and not livable. Not even enough to buy groceries and gas. Embarrassing raise each year of about 12 cents. Management pressures workers to put out as many donations as possible - a certain number of pieces must be put out per hour. However, most donations were in deplorable condition and were people's garbage. Management stressed quantity over QUALITY, even when shoppers complain constantly about broken, dirty, ripped, and disgusting merchandise on the sales floor. Back room was relatively dirty, but it was the donations that were truly unimaginably disgusting. Lack of supplies. Things would run out - shelves and clothing racks overflowed with unmovable items and thus no clothing hangers or shelf space would be left. Workers were often left to go for half a shift without any clothing hangers -- how does one do the job without a hanger to put clothing on? Inappropriate sexual comments from one employee; same person often refused to do his job of taking out the terrible quality merchandise, leaving production workers unable to do their job. Managers sometimes late to the store at opening time.
