Pros

Very thorough training programs for employees. Co-workers are friendly and mostly helpful. Decent pay if you can afford working part-time as a driver (5-6 hrs a day) and working a split shift. Part time employees are eligible for PTO and 401K. (no insurance benefits for pt employees) Clients and their families are the best part of this job. Feeling like you're making a difference. Lots of client outings

Cons

The atmosphere between supervisors and employees can be very volatile. It's the "us vs. them" mentality. Although employees accrue PTO, many employees aren't allowed to use it due to lack of coverage. Client to staff ratio is often below state regulations and cleanliness and germ control is severely lacking (the clean up crew is the clients who are not allowed to use antibacterial cleansers). There are absolutely no opportunities for advancement at Gompers, pay for DTA is around $9/hr, drivers $11/hr. All employees must be 21 to work here which makes it difficult to make a living wage. Another bad thing is that supervisors are very slow to change a client's individual service plan which in many instances left the client vulnerable to serious injury. They indiscriminately fire employees for no reason, will fight un-employment benefits tooth and nail even if it means lying about that employee and the reasons for being dismissed. Employee will lose all PTO and will not be given the needed certificates they earned to find another job, ie, first aide and cpr.. If you're a strong advocate for client safety and write too many incident reports you will be deemed a whistle blower and will be warned then fired.
