Pros

Some rare nice employees, relaxed dress code.

Cons

This is the worst place I have ever worked for. *Compensation is low & benefits are bad (employees now have to pay for 20% of their insurance and the insurance itself doesn't cover much). *No reviews & no raises, despite what the employee handbook says Work methods used are prehistoric. There is no strategy, management will tell you to do something they know won't be successful, but "at least we can say we did it." * If you come up with a new idea, management won’t be open to listen to it, they'd rather continue with whatever they’re used to doing, even if it sets you up for failure. *Turnover is so high and since the environment is so toxic, even interns won't accept job offers *Many people have just been laid off, the company is not doing well at all because management refuses to acknowledge their mistakes. *Environment is very unprofessional: VPs & managers use names to call employees below them, thinking it is funny. Employees insult other employees behind their backs, as well as clients. Some yell. Some watch TV all day. Some just sleep at their desk. All of this is tolerated. If you report a problem, no further action will be taken, management will just laugh at it. *Just because you are in a position of power and can mistreat people, doesn't mean you should. Despite what upper management may think, it is not the repetitive work, low pay or no raises that make people leave the company. It is the unfair environment and poor treatment. There used to be an unskilled, rude, and abusive manager that was promoted twice just because she had been the longest with the company and was close to upper management. It wouldn't have been so bad, but she had no clue what she was doing, tried to make people under her do her work, and also mistreated employees under her. Upper management was either blind or closed their eyes to it. This person belittled people constantly and played mind games with them. She also got some people laid off for no reason. Whether you did your job right or wrong, she would always make derogatory comments about it, and she would make you do her job, taking all credit for it. She knew what she was doing was wrong but her behavior was tolerated there, and even encouraged, since she was promoted and abused her power.

GlobalFluency Response

Hi there, I hesitated writing a response to this review. Clearly, your time here or your departure has left a lasting bad taste in your mouth. However, I did think it was important to post something...even if it was just an apology that your time with GF damaged you to the degree you have vented here in your post. Just to clarify, as a company, we do not solicit positive feedback posts on Glassdoor. I know it is a practice that some companies engage in, and it would certainly be easy for us to do...but really...I just think people have better things to do with their days! So the reviews that are here are not solicited, fake or somehow fraudulent. Just as we respect your intensely negative review, we also respect the positive ones and don't try to pad or fake them. I also am quite concerned by your allegation that problems, when reported, are ignored. This is something quite serious and will be looked into. We are, and have always been, a small company...so looking into any unresolved or ignored reported issues should be handled in short order. In thinking back on the last handful of people who have left GF (outside of recent staffing layoffs where we moved to right-size certain teams) I have also reached out to several to understand if they left because of an abusive manager. You see, the language you have used is incredibly specific and serious. Should you wish to elaborate or provide specific instances where, as you have stated, a person was doing something wrong and this behavior was encouraged and promoted, I personally would like to know. I encourage you to reach out directly to me a lmiller@globalfluency.com to outline these specific incidents so I can review them and take appropriate action. Thanks for your time. Liz

Pros

There have been a lot of changes within the company in the last year and a half to two years. The changes directly addressed previous complaints, making the current work environment extremely conducive to learning and growth. The senior director & VP level employees are easy to talk to and genuinely care for new ideas. They encourage projects that push for efficiency and automation, allowing the company to scale with available technology. Taking initiative is encouraged and guidance is amply available. The current sales and marketing execs make the company what it truly is- a supportive and motivating environment.

Cons

-The people/hr/office management structure needs some more work. The current processes have potential but they need some updates- a few dedicated resources could make things like payroll, benefits, etc much easier to navigate. -The benefits aren't the best but that's the case with most small to mid-sized Bay Area companies. It's more of a problem that has to do with cost-of-living rather than with company.
