Global Water Intelligence

Is this your company?

If you need a paycheck it's fine. If you want to grow or learn, it is not. - Anonymous employee Global Water Intelligence Employee Review

Pros

Stable base salary, decent health insurance, occasional traveling opportunities

Cons

The Sales team is just an inside sales position where you are asked to cold call 70 people a day who have clicked on a marketing email blast, THAT IS ALL. If you want to do that, great! If not, stay away. The product is decent at best, but you aren't given much flexibility to customize product to customer to actually add value, plus the price points limit the market to very niche customers. Growth has been stagnant for years and that's been through mostly dumb luck. Honestly it's a miracle the company is still around. The event side of the business is definitely more interesting, but again, rather disorganized and incapable of growth through ridiculous rules set by senior management. Learning and diversifying your tasks and experiences is actively discouraged, and there are many employees who are simply coasting for the paycheck. If you have skills or knowledge, they will NOT be put to use here. Also, notice that all the positive reviews come from their Oxford office in the UK. That office is managed much better than the Austin one. The one here in the US is barely surviving and may not last. Again...if you want to turn off your brain during the day and pay the bills, go for it. But this company is not anything more than that. Fair warning.

Pros

- If you are interested in learning about the water industry, GWI is an ideal place to start - Great networking opportunities with people in municipal water and industrial water (such as oil and gas or microelectronics) - Opportunity to travel - Events are fun/the work environment can be exciting - The CEO is a visionary that can ignite a passion for your work - For the US office, in a country where PTO is often overlooked, they offer great flexibility in taking vacation - Most of the team is really great and supportive though often overworked and might not have as much time for you as they would like

Cons

- I worked as a conference producer at two places and the pay can be relatively low here - If you are in the US office, it is likely you may feel like the underdog in comparison to the UK office - It is a rather small company that can be prone to disorganization - Your job description and responsibilities often expand (and often without a pay raise - though this may come later after you have proven yourself)
