Pros

remote work and interesting projects

Cons

I was disappointed by the lack of adherence to compliance rules regarding donor regulations. There were instances of improperly charging personal travel expenses to project costs and many more cases which raises significant ethical concerns. Management seemed to exploit the consultant hiring model, often bringing in individuals for roles that should have been full-time employee positions under UK and EU regulations. This led to a culture where employees could be dismissed without proper grounds, creating a sense of instability and insecurity.

Pros

Remote and on-site work opportunities; exposure to diverse issues; easy to be promoted; relatively well-paid

Cons

The reviews from December 2023 and February 2022 paint an accurate picture of the organization. It's disheartening that these issues have been hanging around for years. During my stint at the organization, several folks tried to pitch in to improve the work environment and culture, only to end up getting bullied by management until they called it quits. The focus seems to be on hiring relatively inexperienced people who don't know any better, and ousting the experienced people who do as soon as they contradict the managing partner. Further, while flaunting their in-country presence to tout themselves as "an unparalleled" organization, they label anyone outside the organization, including local partners and beneficiaries, as incompetent. This contradicts the Western colonial attitudes they publicly claim to be against. As highlighted in the Dec 2023 review, the organization's structure, with an "inner circle" of trusted folks, makes any internal complaint about various types of harassment or unprofessional behavior pretty much pointless.
