Pros
Some of what is written here is true, some of it is not, and it is certainly not the whole truth about working at Gherson. I worked at Gherson for just over a year, before leaving to join the Bar, which was the plan all along. I was a part of the "Green" team, which is the core group of fee-earners who assist Roger and Charles (the partners) with the most high-value, high-stakes and complex cases. Overall, it was a challenging and utterly worthwhile experience. As a junior member of the team, I gained exposure and hands-on experience that I would not have gained elsewhere, which enabled me to build my knowledge, skills and confidence more than I could have imagined. The work is fascinating: factually and legally complex, varied, occasionally novel, and often involving issues of topical geopolitical importance. My colleagues were - without doubt - the highlight of my time at Gherson. It was a privilege to work with a group of young lawyers who are exceptionally competent, kind, and good fun to be around. Most of the criticism written here concerns the firm's senior management. It should be taken with a pinch of salt. By his own admission, the firm's eponymous founder is a demanding boss. But he may also give you opportunities and mentoring that you would be unlikely to recieve from the senior partner of a comparable law firm. I have a lot to thank him for. I cannot speak to what it is like in the General/Corporate teams, but they are are also very friendly. While their work is clearly demanding, in general their hours and working environment seem a bit less intense. The support/admin/management staff are also great people.
Cons
It is not for the faint of heart. Expect relatively long hours and hard work. It can sometimes feel like you're thrown in at the deep end, to sink or swim. Thankfully, the team is friendly and supportive - everyone works hard to keep each other afloat. While these factors can be challenging, they also give rise to rewarding opportunities, as set out above.
