Pros

I have worked for Geovista for several years and have seen some major changes within the CU for the better. It can be a very rewarding experience working here. The Members you deal with daily can be both the best and worst part of your job, depending on your position. Just like any service industry or retail setting sometimes people come in ready to yell at you for things outside of your control. Other times you have such a positive interaction with a Member that it makes your whole day better. I will say that while they have worked hard to improve the training process for new employees during my time here, it still has a very long way to go. However just like any job, in any field if you want to learn and be successful the opportunity is there.

Cons

Some of the drawbacks of working here include having branch managers who have chosen not to learn or keep up with the changes and new systems that have been put in place over the last few years. I find it beyond frustrating to overhear them tell a Member to call our call center because they (the manager) can't help with a certain problem. I have also overheard something even worse which is they tell the Member something that is incorrect, because they don't seem to want to learn. Some of the managers seem to almost have a "I've worked here for 10+ years and this is how it's always been done" type of attitude. As for upper management it really depends on who you are dealing with as to the experience you'll have. Some in upper management are great and if they can't answer your questions or solve your issues right then, they will go above and beyond to find the information to help. Others are not as invested in doing the job, and there's a few in upper management that, while I see their job titles I have no idea what they do on a daily. There's also a few that are so abrasive and borderline rude, that I will go out of my way to not interact with them at all. As far as wages go, I was hired pre-pandemic and I understand that post COVID wages are different now. However when new employees are hired making almost as much as I do after years with the company it bothers me. I would probably feel differently if Geovista had some type of system in place that rewarded employee loyalty to make up the difference. Something like a higher percentage increase after yearly reviews, anything that made those of us who choose to stay feel valued. Unfortunately this is not the case. Each and every pay increase I have gotten over the years I have had to be my own advocate. I feel that my hard work and dedication should be compensated for without me having to push the issue. There are executives who say I see everything you do for the Members and you're an asset to the Credit Union, but it almost feels like they forget that when payday comes around. Yet I can guarantee those same executives aren't living paycheck to paycheck. Overall I find what I do to be very rewarding and they do try to fill any open positions from the existing employees before they advertise an opening publicly. Just don't be too good at your job or too much of an asset in a position otherwise even if you apply for an opportunity in another department you will not get it.

Pros

PTO accrues decently each paycheck. At a few branches, you’ll have a good team. Banking hours/holidays are a plus. Some people from different branches are helpful and nice at times.

Cons

Training is a joke (they throw you out on a teller line after 2-3 days of “training”). The other departments do not like to communicate with one another to best help the member. Upper management is wishy-washy with policy and procedure and no one is on the same page. Ask questions, it’s considered gossip. They pick favorites and do not give attention to branches that can use the help and guidance. The work environment is like walking on eggshells. They do not like criticism from members and will bow down to the whims without investigating the situation throughly.
