Pros

By implementing efficiencies, utilizing genetic counseling assistants (GCAs), and embracing remote work, genetic counselors are able to direct their attention towards the more intricate and captivating aspects of their profession, rather than being burdened by administrative tasks. The option to work from home with flexible paid time off (PTO) further enhances their work-life balance. Additionally, the presence of a large clinical team fosters a rich pool of knowledge and provides a supportive environment for genetic counselors.

Cons

The company's culture has undergone significant changes over the past year. Previously, it was known for being collaborative, open, and innovative. However, upper management has now fostered a culture of fear, where individuals are discouraged from expressing dissenting opinions or any form of "negativity" due to the fear of retaliation or punishment. To make matters worse, key leaders who played a critical role in maintaining the company's culture have been let go. As a result, managers are now responsible for overseeing teams that are twice the size, and they may lack the necessary expertise in certain clinical areas. Rather than valuing innovative thinking, the company now prioritizes employees who simply work diligently and produce a high volume of patient output. Despite company-wide surveys expressing these concerns, there has been no effort or plan implemented to improve the company's culture.

Pros

Working from home and the benefits were nice

Cons

This company takes full advantage of its intake coordinators/GCAs… period. The company thought it was a great idea to lay off more than half of its employees in January 2025 and to operate on a skeleton crew. It went from a nice, WFH job to a literal sweat shop. I also was forced into a call center role for half of my days, which was never a responsibility that I had before. I honestly think certain people are only staying because it allows them to WFH and take care of their kids. Since I have none… see ya!
