Pros

They will hire you are a pretty competitive salary at first. The benefits are above average. You work a 9/80 schedule. As an IT guy, they pay for certifications. I got most of my certification while an engineer at GD. You can use this place as a springboard to get better stuff on your resume and most employers don't know that GD is basically a Beltway bandit company so you can get tons of IT carts, build your resume, and leave after having them pay for it. If you are not a hard charger, then this is the job for you, if you value stability over growth, then you found your home,

Cons

This is where engineers go to die. You will work on technology that is 5-10 years out of date. Hiring managers thought I was kidding when I told them that my servers were Windows 2003 in calendar year 2012. There is really no growth without going to Pittsfield if you are a field engineer. Pittsfield has to be in the top 5 crappiest places I have ever been to live. After working there 5 years, I was only making ten grand more than when I started, and I exceeded my targets each year. You are absolutely a number here, and you feel like it, I had managers who literally didn't know who I was. This place is actually like Better Off Ted if you have ever seen the show, it's actually kind of comical.

Pros

Good work life balance Projects matter for our war fighters Most co-workers are competent and dedicated More work than people, and moving to other engineering jobs is possible

Cons

Some numbskulls seem to get into senior positions. A "Consolidation" of buildings is underfunded, poorly planned, and drives chaos. The push to squeeze every nickel of efficiency means that there isn't always money for equipment or team building events (below the VP level).
