Pros

Was a cool job. Liked my coworkers. Easy at times. Worked with helicopters. Worked at the top of my licenses.

Cons

These cons are for both nurses/paramedics: Unsafe program, minimums for mechanical repairs of helicopters, fly unnecessary patients (expect to run ragged flying BLS or ALS patients), very old boy club mentality, favorites played with those who buy into the old culture, no reimbursement for certification (required to have CFRN/FPC which is expensive but only reimburse 250$ ONCE… will not reimburse for recertification or prep classes). Want CFRN/FPC within a year of hire but BCEN/IBSC recommend 2 years experience. Many orientees leave before end of orientation (paramedics especially— some have failed FP-C yet Life Flight still won’t pay for prep). Culture is permitted of hostility and sexual harassment. Increased pressure to complete missions despite feeling of unsafe conditions. Paramedics and EMTs do not qualify for retention bonuses. Gear is sub par, doesn’t work sometimes, bags are disorganized/overpacked. No mounting systems in aircraft (embarrassing compared to other systems). Cannot transmit vital signs off monitor despite the fact the Zoll monitors have capability to with our Emscharts system. Horribly understaffed. Based close for staffing/no pilot coverage and you’re expected to use your PTO. No work/life balance. Never expect to get off on time. Rotating schedules/no predictable scheduling unless you’re certain people or at certain bases. Wont pay mileage if you’re moved to the ground truck at Danville. Want specific gear (headwear, vests) but expect you to buy from them where other programs provide it and the program often never has adequate stock. Potent nepotism (people in power/positions are married to each other or having relations). It’s really a mess. For the same commute, you’re better off going to Stat, Life Lion, or Penn
