I have been at Gamechange for several years now and witnessed Gamechange start from a modest office in Dubai to a Company now spanning multiple countries - UAE (Dubai), India, Singapore and Indonesia. The Company has aspirations for multiple countries in SE Asia. Growth from one country to four countries has made the strengths of the Company clear to me # Out-of-the-box thinking Out of the box thinking defines the nature of work and development at Gamechange. The Company works with some of the largest Enterprise Clients in Middle East and SE Asia. This is made possible by sharp problem solving focus and innovative approaches to day to day work. # Sharp goal orientation Nothing I do is goal less at Gamechange. For a Company that is designed to move fast, I expected that there will be wasteful engineering. However, razor sharp focus on product and key markets (Indonesia, UAE) ensures that engineering waste is minimal. Every engineer works on something that goes into production. No lab experiments # Learn tech learn new domains At Gamechange I have found myself working on the cutting edge of Fintech and now chat commerce (product called ShopKey)... When I joined the Company, I had little to no idea about Banking, Enterprise SaaS. I have learnt not only about the Banking and Financial Services domain but also about the nuances of SE Asia as a market as well as social / chat commerce. # Flat hierarchy The Company has a flat hierarchy and everyone in the team gets the opportunity to work with the leadership ; e.g., even a very new / young member of the team can work directly with the Country CEO of Indonesia for example - which I find is quite rare even by start-up standards # Company Board comprising of industry stalwarts The Company is Chaired by ex Managing Director of Google Asia Pacific region. The ability of the Company to have such level of mentorship and brain trust at top helps keep the overall direction crystal clear
Cons
The Company's growth has created its own challenges. The cons I see shaping up are - Stretching the team thin unless recruitment is ramped up in new markets like Indonesia - Limited visibility on tech blogs. I would like to see the Company spearhead and drive content / discussions on leading tech forums as the Company works on some of the most advanced tech in its space. The Company's engineering work needs to find more voice e.g., through tech blogs and discussions - More mentorship time. I would like the Company to allocate atleast 20% of leadership time in mentoring junior colleagues through formal informal channels
