Pros
1. Can be a great stepping stone for your career development. Gaia looks for a "deal" when filling positions so they are willing to take chances and hire people other companies may pass on. 2. You will get the opportunity to wear many hats and learn a variety of things. This again is great for career development. 3. Even at the worst of the worst companies you will always find good people and Gaia isn't an exception. There are some good people at Gaia trying their best to make Gaia great. 4. Bonuses can be decent.
Cons
1. Based on my perceptions, It seems like Gaia compensates employees under market value 2. No direct deposit, yes this is still the case in 2021. 3. No 401k 4. Unlimited PTO, at Gaia it seemed like to me that unlimited PTO really meant no guaranteed PTO. 5. No sick time (see item 4). Even though there is no sick time based on my observations and experience if you are liked you’ll probably get paid when out sick. 6. No Paid Holidays (see item 4) Even though there is no official paid holidays if you are liked you’ll probably get most major holidays off. If a holiday falls on a weekend then the holiday is not observed on the following Monday or previous Friday. 7. In my opinion the health insurance is expensive with both a high deductible and 20% coinsurance. 8. Extremely high turnover, while I worked at Gaia by my estimate less than 15% of the employees have been there longer than 3 years and I witnessed many many employees leave. 9. In my opinion Gaia's technology hasn't kept up with the industry. Most of their software is written in Windows Forms/C# and hasn't been re-written to take advantage of new technology in 15+ years. Although some new development has occurred. 10. Company offers 24/7 support and it was made known to me that working from home is not allowed, so you may have to go into the office on weekends and/or holidays. 11. In my opinion the office is made up with old, ugly, and uncomfortable furniture and there's clutter everywhere. The office can be uncomfortable year round. In the winter it is common for the A/C to be on plus a space heater running in every office. It doesn’t make sense I know but you are not allowed to turn the A/C off. 12. While I was there I was not provided HIPAA awareness training when hired or every two years as required by HIPAA laws. I was also not made aware of a designated HIPAA compliance officer as required by HIPAA laws. It didn’t appear that Gaia maintained a compliance binder for HIPAA Privacy or HIPAA Security as required. Gaia recently lost patient records due to human error and did not have backups to restore the lost records. 13. The biggest negative is the culture. I commonly heard abusive yelling and berating from the company's CEO. Most meetings I was in were very unproductive because the company’s CEO takes over, yells, and/or berates. I observed him do very little listening and I believe once he convinces himself that something is true it is very hard to change his mind.
