Pros

-Great 401k Match, vested after 3 years -Benefits -Opportunity to move up within branch- always have open positions -Good Brand Awareness for Members -If you work anywhere outside of the CFCs you will have a great experience! -The initial training staff is amazing! You will not learn a quarter of what you need to learn because it’s just too much but the training staff is fantastic! -No Weekends

Cons

- If you work at the CFCs, be prepared to have 20 managers- your direct manager, your branch manager, your regional manager, ops, sales, consumer lending, and be prepared for none of them to be on the same page, but all of them want to “coach” you -Any position in the centers is only sales based, you will solely be graded on sales and nothing else but will be responsible for all departments and knowing all of their protocols regardless of the fact you have not been trained on any of it. As much as you are given the “Credit Union” speech, do not be confused the only thing that defines you is Sales -In order to actually hit your goals, you will need to submit almost thrice your goals in loans- be prepared for this as you will face serious requisites for in house requirements compared to dealerships -Turnover is a disaster at the centers, regional managers lose entire centers of team members at a time and nothing is done -Managers and Regional Mangers are celebrated for hitting their sales goals regardless of where their team stands, therefore management mainly focuses on their own sales and competing against their team- having worked at several FI’s, this is the only institution I have ever seen do this -Hail, Hurricanes and storms, if you work at headquarters do not worry as you will immediately be asked to go home (even though it’s the safest building in the network), if you work at a branch be prepared to report to work under any weather circumstance, they will however let you bring your kids to work during the hurricane which is nice and they will also give you several weather updates throughout the storm so you know what the wheather is like outside while you work -Promotions above the in-branch level are not based on work ethic or goals, be friends with the right person, you will get that promotion regardless of how little you know about the position

Thank you for taking the time to recognize the Total Rewards program that highlights our benefits and leadership team. Yes, we follow Financial Industry work hours, but our PTO and company Holidays are very generous and help to maintain a work life balance.

Pros

There are a few employees who genuinely care about helping members, and the credit union does offer occasional community events and volunteer opportunities. The basic benefits package is decent especially 401k match.

Cons

Compensation for frontline roles is far below market, especially considering the level of sales pressure, lending responsibilities, and constant customer support required. Competing credit unions and major banks pay significantly more for identical work. The “people helping people” branding does not reflect the internal reality or the policies employees must follow. Community events and parade appearances feel performative and do nothing to address the issues staff and members face. Branch leadership often behaves unprofessionally, with inconsistent expectations and dismissive communication, leaving little meaningful coaching or support. The attendance policy also allows managers to issue write-ups after only three call-out days within six months, even if one of those absences is just a partial day. This gives managers extensive discretion and creates a system that feels unnecessarily imbalanced. The overall culture, policies, and compensation create an environment where even employees who truly care struggle to succeed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with GTE during your short tenure with us. We conduct regular compensation surveys to ensure we remain competitive with our compensation practices in all of our markets. We pride ourselves on our community involvement and as a Not for Profit, this is reflective in our daily values to the community. Our attendance policy addresses and supports employees to ensure they can achieve a work life balance while addressing those that experience schedule deviations. We pride ourselves on the employee satisfaction surveys which are also reflected in the years of service that our employees give to the GTE Family. That is why GTE has been voted a Best Place to Work in not only local but National surveys.
