Innovative Projects GPL Technologies is known for delivering advanced technology solutions, often tackling unique and complex projects. These challenges provide employees with valuable opportunities for growth, problem-solving, and learning, particularly in emerging technologies. Team Collaboration The company fosters a collaborative work culture where teamwork is highly valued. Colleagues bring a range of skills to the table, creating an environment where effective problem-solving and knowledge-sharing are integral to project success. Client-Centric Approach GPL places a strong emphasis on understanding and addressing client needs. The focus on building and maintaining strong client relationships ensures that clients remain a top priority, contributing to overall business success. Professional Growth The company offers significant opportunities for hands-on learning and exposure to a wide variety of technologies. This practical experience plays a crucial role in personal career development, allowing employees to build expertise in different areas of the industry.

Cons

Leadership and Strategic Direction While the company has been in business for over twenty years, there are challenges with leadership decision-making that impact long-term stability. The Owner/CEO often implements new strategies based on the latest ideas from books or podcasts without fully considering the company’s existing initiatives or consulting with experienced employees. This can create confusion and lead to shifts in focus that disrupt ongoing projects. Additionally, rapid changes in leadership roles, including frequent turnover of senior staff (Presidents and Operations Managers), have contributed to instability. Resource and Financial Management Operating across five different lines of business has spread resources and finances thin, affecting both service quality and employee roles. During company-wide meetings, financial performance (P&L) was frequently discussed in a way that added pressure on employees, who were expected to directly influence financial outcomes. This focus on individual contribution to revenue, combined with fluctuating employment contracts due to cash flow issues, has created an environment of uncertainty and stress. Uncompensated Additional Responsibilities Employees are often required to take on additional responsibilities beyond their primary roles. While this creates opportunities for learning, the lack of corresponding compensation for the increased workload has negatively impacted morale. This issue, combined with the company's rapid changes, has led to a higher turnover rate, despite the loyalty shown by many employees. Marketing and Sales Alignment The marketing team, based overseas, has difficulty aligning its strategies with the local market, leading to disconnects between marketing efforts and sales objectives. This misalignment has contributed to missed opportunities and ineffective campaigns. The Owner/CEO’s attempts to create more visible content, such as videos, have not resulted in strong engagement, further highlighting the need for a more cohesive marketing strategy that resonates with the target audience. Outdated Sales Tools and Processes The sales tools and systems in place are not well-integrated or up to date, resulting in inefficiencies. For example, generating basic quotes can take days, which delays client interactions. Additionally, the company lacks a clear system for tracking and managing yearly renewals, leading to financial losses and missed opportunities for repeat business. Operational and Administrative Challenges The company has experienced frequent delays in accounting and ordering processes, which have caused inefficiencies and negatively impacted client relationships. These operational issues contribute to frustration within the team and hinder overall productivity. Under-Resourced Engineering Team The engineering team, working entirely remotely, is often spread thin. This has led to limited collaboration among engineers, despite the availability of an online knowledge base. For managed service clients, having only one dedicated engineer per account has created challenges when additional support is needed. Overseas engineers assist with off-hours support, but feedback has indicated they sometimes struggle to manage workflows effectively compared to their dedicated counterparts. Intense Workload The nature of the projects often results in periods of intense workload, requiring strong time management and adaptability. While the fast-paced environment can be rewarding, it can also lead to stress, especially when resources are limited. Resource Allocation Challenges Resource allocation has been an ongoing challenge due to the company’s fast pace and the wide scope of its operations. These challenges can affect project timelines and create bottlenecks, although the team’s resilience and problem-solving skills have often helped mitigate the impact.

Pros

Fun culture, relaxed atmosphere, exciting clients, and good comradery. Benefits package is OK.

Cons

Leadership is not concerned with the treatment of their workforce, tend to put the client above everything. While training for various certifications is available through the company it's only to maintain supporting those clients who require that, once achieved you're shown the door. There is no internal onboarding process for new hires, you're left to discover things on your own and often it's information that was left behind and is mostly incorrect meaning you still have to scramble and look inadequate to the clients. There are poor decisions made by Sr. management that impact their financials which in turn determines if employees get to keep their job. Accounting struggles to keep things in the black....weekly.
