Pros

-Hard, stimulating work that keeps you busy and passes the day quickly -Good experience in drafting MEP plans and also project management -Nice co-workers, most people similar in age -Family-oriented -Helpful supervisors depending on your team

Cons

-Hard, time-consuming work that sometimes requires working overtime. -Sometimes doing more emailing than actual engineering. -A mismanaged schedule that can sometimes prioritize project completion over project quality. -Not always the most consistent in quality/professionalism. -Occasional bouts of unprofessional management that tends to undermine employees' needs - see advice to management.

Pros

1. Wide variety of projects to work on. I was involved in the design and drafting of retaining walls, multi story buildings, MEP equipment anchorage, and smaller structures such as trash enclosures. 2. The two main structural project managers are very helpful in providing guidance on projects. 3. Based on the project's complexity, there are opportunities to do various aspects of the design process. I got hands on experience with running calcs, drafting plans, doing design coordination directly with the Arch/Owner, completing revisions to plan sets due to RFIs or Plan Check comments, job-site visits, and 3rd party submittal reviews.

Cons

1. There is no set training period. You do the basic on boarding paper work and some initial set up for the software that is used (AutoCAD, ENERCALC, RISA, Bluebeam, Energy Pro for T24) but then it is heavily reliant on individuals to ask questions and check-in with the PMs during projects to ensure they are understanding and implementing calculations properly.
