Pros

Meeting "B list" players in the Investment Banking Industry

Cons

The founder is a millionaire who doesn't need to work, and only works to feed his ego (staying active in finance) and his hobby of racing Aston Martins. The (newly appointed) CEO has been with the firm since 1998 and truly tries to do the right thing (sometimes only for himself, though). One Managing Director claims to have attended Columbia Business School, but only attended for one or two semesters (in reality, he received his Masters from a Philippine university), This speaks to the level of truthfulness at the firm. Year end valuations are purely subjective and arbitrary - you will work your heart out and be disappointed at year end, and not understand why. This place has a revolving door on it - 3 or 4 people have stayed a long time, but over 25 have passed through the doors in the last ten years. Every year they hire one or 2 Associates fro good schools....who quickly leave.

Pros

Meeting higher level bankers due to the small size of the company. There is very easy access to industry veterans.

Cons

The culture is incessant with pretentiousness. As a summer analyst I was almost always addressed in an extremely condescending tone. The full-time analysts rest a bit on the lazy side as well and don't seem to be focused on driving the company upwards or teaching the summer analysts anything. Was assigned loads and loads of busy work. (Including interviewing the next round of intern, a process in which I am extremely unqualified for).
