Pros

FreeWave is one of those rare small companies where a motivated leader can actually move the needle. In my time here I've had genuine ownership over manufacturing operations, quality systems, ERP, safety, compliance, and cross-functional planning — the kind of broad authority that takes a decade to accumulate at a large company. The team is talented, genuinely committed, and not territorial. Boulder is an outstanding location if you value work-life balance and outdoor access, and the office environment is casual and human. Leadership is accessible, entrepreneurial, and open to ideas in a way that larger organizations rarely are. The product portfolio is technically interesting — industrial wireless and the emerging Zentry software platform give the company a meaningful foothold in a space that matters. The company is in an active transformation toward a software-first business model, and if that transition lands, the upside for everyone here is real.

Cons

Resource constraints are a consistent reality. Operations and cross-functional teams are asked to support aggressive goals — new product introductions, compliance initiatives, ERP migrations, business development — often at the same time with the same people. Prioritization can be challenging when multiple strategic initiatives compete for limited bandwidth. The pivot toward a software platform is the right strategic bet long-term, but it does mean the legacy hardware business receives less investment attention than it once did. For manufacturing and operations leaders who want to grow a production business over the long term, the trajectory is worth understanding going in. That's not a criticism of the strategy — it's just an honest fit consideration depending on what you're looking for in a role.

Pros

FreeWave is a mission-driven company solving real problems in industrial connectivity, critical infrastructure, OT, IIoT, and secure remote access. The company has strong technology with meaningful potential, especially around Zentry, Zero Trust, secure edge access, and modernizing how organizations connect to remote assets. The work is interesting and impactful. You get exposure to customers, technical challenges, product strategy, sales engineering, and real-world infrastructure problems. There are opportunities to take ownership, contribute ideas, and help shape the direction of new solutions.

Cons

Because the company is evolving, employees need to be comfortable with change, ambiguity, and building structure while moving forward.

Pros

Collaborative culture with direct access to leadership and the ability to influence decisions. Opportunity to work on innovative technologies in industrial IoT, wireless communications, edge computing, and cybersecurity. Employees are trusted to take ownership and make meaningful contributions. Cross-functional teams work closely together, creating strong visibility into products and customer needs. Small enough that individuals can have a real impact, but with a diverse portfolio of technologies and markets. Flexible environment that encourages problem-solving, initiative, and continuous improvement. Talented and dedicated colleagues who genuinely care about customer success.

Cons

As with many growing technology companies, priorities can shift as market opportunities and customer needs evolve. Teams often wear multiple hats, which can be challenging for those who prefer highly specialized roles. Resources are more limited than at very large corporations, requiring creativity and adaptability to get things done. Processes continue to mature as the company grows and expands into new markets.
