Not a great job, but far from the worst - Relief Assistant Manager Fred Meyer Employee Review

Pros

Good benefits, flexible schedule. The employee discount is a nice bonus. Encourages internal advancement, and experience and ability count for more than education (though it helps.)

Cons

If you're looking to advance, expect to work a good bit of overtime, and a lot of odd hours, including overnight shifts. As with any service sector job, some of your coworkers will be useless and there will never be enough of them around to quite get everything done as well or as thoroughly as upper management demands.

Pros

Job can be fun and interesting Always something new to learn Lots of personal fulfillment as a manager when things go right

Cons

Unsupportive upper management Toxic work culture, unpaid overtime is rewarded and even expected or forced, even to the tune of multiple weeks in a row with no days off when you are salaried. They claim to support work life balance but even the smallest effort to set boundaries is heavily punished. Not paid as much as we should be for everything we have to do and deal with
