Pros

Lots of growth opportunities and you can get a lot of hands-on experience with revolutionary technology. Most of the staff seem to really like each other and I keep in frequent contact with a lot of people still in the company. Incredibly intelligent colleagues.

Cons

There was over 15% company-wide turnover in the first quarter of 2021. This should be a red flag to anyone interested in Foundry. Diversity is considered exclusively in terms of race and gender. Even when you see the answer to one of the one-star reviews, there is no discussion of the other egregious amounts of discrimination against age and socioeconomic background. The whole recruiting process is focused on recruiting on college campuses, and it seems almost all experienced referrals were immediately rejected by management without any explanation. Additionally, people with SAT math scores below 750 were immediately kicked out of the pipeline. (Only 9% of all people who meet this threshold are either Black or Hispanic.) They are very keen on talking about a competitive compensation compared to the FAANG group, but the compensation has slipped to around 50% of what FAANG peers earn without a discussion to resolve this issue. There is so much money raised that there is no rush to pivot.

Pros

If you learn by getting your hands dirty, this is an ideal place to learn everything in the tech stack and how huge companies think about making decisions with data. Strong startup culture allowing for early ownership of work and making changes to how the company operates No-one is a cog in the number-generating machine. People in Data and Software roles are also heavily involved in designing the work they do Great for senior technical staff who want more ownership and to engage in continual development unhindered by the slow response time of an enterprise company. Great place for generalists who could solve operational problems, write code, or do deep research. Lots of funding and diverse stock options make this a low-risk high-reward startup. People get to work on portfolio companies as suits their skills and interests A lot of time with the company founders allows staff to learn a lot about how 30+ year tech & C-suite veterans operate.

Cons

We are very focused on the best next-step in each AI system, and getting better results every week. While this is good (and a breath of fresh air for anyone who has watched a larger company stagnate), there is room for us to get more benefit from long-term research tasks or formalising our internal knowledge to help new hires learn faster. The most senior technical staff are stretched thin. They do great work and are supportive of their teams, but they each have FAR more than a full-time roles' worth of responsibility.
