Pros

The company does great work to help people in the community and help fill the gap in lack of affordable housing. They offer great benefits and better pay than most nonprofits.

Cons

Serving different locations spread all around Austin can be challenging and can make some staff spread thin. Also, admitting areas you're struggling in and asking for help from your supervisor can sometimes be used as a mark against you, instead of helping give you the support you need. That's unfortunate because doing this type of work can be very challenging and taxing on a lot of levels. Lastly, HR staff *should* be able to do their job without being rude about it.

Pros

Staff that you work with day-to-day are usually some of the kindest, hardworking people you will meet. A good emphasis on work-life balance for middle management. Well connected and opens the opportunity to work with various community partners and other non-profits, if you’re looking to further your reach in those spheres. Working with residents can be rewarding, especially as you navigate relationships and build trust with them.

Cons

Upper management has had very little to no change over the past decade, creating a click culture — if you aren’t accepted by this culture, opportunities will be slim-to-none for growth. Even though employees are encouraged to take time off and utilize self-care to balance working with challenging residents, when there are situations that concern staff safety, there often isn’t a lot of support until it literally escalates to physical violence. Lack of support for employees of color, who are often victims of racist language used by residents. Pay is way less than working in conventional property management but the emotional demand is way higher.
