Pros

∙ Mission-driven organization with talented and passionate staff. ∙ Incredible youth participants whose stories inspire daily.

Cons

∙ Leadership lacks adequate training in disability inclusion and HR compliance. ∙ Requests for accommodations are met with resistance and defensiveness. ∙ HR processes appear focused on protecting management rather than ensuring fairness. ∙ Psychological safety for employees with disabilities is low.

Pros

Really proactive and supportive leadership navigating a tough landscape. The work is important and I feel supported in doing it. All staff are able to contribute to organizational goals and culture. Staff retreats are in-person and are well structured, but also fun. I feel cared for.

Cons

doing this type of work remotely isn't for everyone. Working with young people, managing multiple projects at the same time, and having good communications is hard in any workspace, but even more challenging via zoom. also, it is a small organization despite being nationally focused, so promotions and growth opportunities are limited, but not their fault.

Pros

The work being done is great in moving the needle for advocacy for youth in/from foster care.

Cons

I joined Fosterclub with high hopes, but my experience has been far from ideal. The job roles here rarely align with the initially promised job descriptions, leaving employees performing tasks outside their scope. The titles of Project Managers and Coordinators seem arbitrary, lacking clear responsibilities. YOU WILL BE MANAGING THE PROJECT AND DOING THE WORK. There are no teams or delineated roles to support the Project outside of the PM and PC roles. While the company claims to value feedback, there’s a paradoxical penalty for providing it. This discourages open communication and stifles any hope for improvement. Expect your role to be filled with tasks that have little relevance to your expertise or job description. In the last four years, the company has witnessed three mass quitting events, indicating significant dissatisfaction among employees. The management environment is toxic, fostering clear favoritism and a sense of tokenism in the workplace. Professional growth is nearly non-existent, both personally and within roles. My time at Fosterclub has been disheartening, and I would caution anyone considering employment here to weigh the potential costs to their well-being and career development.
