Pros

The non-leadership staff is incredibly talented and dedicated to making wide-scale improvements to WA state as a whole.

Cons

- lacking leadership skills. most leaders at Forterra don't have the skills necessary to mediate their own work or workplace conflicts, let alone be managing anyone else's. leadership is defensive and unproductive. - union-busting. before the union was instated (and they're still in the process of negotiations) a lot of subtle union-busting was demonstrated by leadership, and when it was brought up by staff we were gaslit into believing we were being too sensitive. - no financial accountability. they have had donors ask for a breakdown of where their money went and have not been able to offer them any sort of real answer. unrestricted money is usually used for overhead like staffing, supplies, etc., but Forterra can't even tell them that because they don't know for sure. every org should be able to track a dollar that comes in and see where it ended up, and have no issues with telling the donor where it landed. the lack of transparency and understanding is astounding. - massive turnover. most of these reviews mention the crazy turnover here, and it's truly insane. in 2022 alone they have lost nearly an entire team and are firing people out of seemingly nowhere? it also doesn't look like they are looking to actually keep their staff, I asked for a raise and was rejected but the position they posted to replace mine has the salary I asked for in the description's estimate. - poor relationships. relationships with employees, donors, and partners are seen more as contractual and transactional than truly a reciprocated partnership. Forterra has put itself in hot water with multiple institutions it claims to have good relationships with on social media due to these interactions.

Pros

Flexibility in working from home, pay was decent, coworkers were phenomenal, management was friendly and supportive at first, good benefits

Cons

total disregard for the welfare of their employees after a certain period of time working there, company culture felt like an actual cult (you either drink the koolaid or get ejected), upper management would throw employees under the bus to save themselves, employees often just "disappeared" without any explanation or acknowledgement, they literally lied on a grant application with the federal government and got caught, a large portion of the org has either resigned or been laid off in the last year which indicates the org may not survive (and frankly, it shouldn't) - honestly, the pros weren't worth it. You can find a better employer elsewhere.
