Challenging startup environment, but super rewarding - Anonymous employee Formant Employee Review

Since joining Formant, I have seen so many things put in place to help the company scale. Sure, there are still growing pains, but the level of transparency, collaboration and ability to stretch into other parts of the business is great and is why people join start-ups! Tons of flexibility and ways to manage your schedule as you see fit. Recently rolled out that we can work/live internationally for up to 60 days per year, which is awesome.

Since we are a fully virtual company that spans all of the US time zones, sometimes there is not a ton of overlap to collaborate with colleagues.

Cool product that is making waves in an exciting industry. Most of the team is brilliant and great to work with. Benefits are not the best but keep improving.

It's comic irony for a company that works with robots: employees are seen as resources to be squeezed as much as possible and then disposed of when it's convenient. The leadership claims to care about the team's happiness and well-being, but in reality, their (unreasonable) contract obligations and revenue goals come before everything else. They will work you around the clock (weekends, holidays, through your "PTO"), thank you for your help, and then throw you off the ship so you can't share in their success. There is simply no company culture or camaraderie. Everyone is constantly behind on fighting their individual fires, and getting help with something is like pulling teeth. It feels like something is always broken and it's always crisis mode. Intra-team interactions are positive and lighthearted for the most part, but deep down one gets the sense that no one is really having a good time.
