Pros

None that I could see

Cons

Spent one week at their head office in Blackburn before quitting. Firstly there is totally inadequate parking, if you find a space you will likely be blocked in, and people aren't quick to help. The offices themselves are symptomatic of the general state of the business, i.e. they are an absolute mess. Not only are they dirty, threadbare, and haven't seen a lick of paint in probably 40 years, they are massively untidy. The amount of junk just left lying around is not only against fire regulations but shows how much people who work there care about the business, it seems people have generally given up. This mindset showed in their computer systems, an utter and total mess. Production servers full of 'OLD_STUFF' directories etc. They had no source control, no development or test systems, everything just hacked on live. Bad practices in the 1970s, never mind 2020s. I'd been brought in to drag them forwards, and may have done, but the state of the offices I was expected to work in for 8 hours a day was far below where I choose to spend my time. (Could also mention the induction training which was given by someone using it as a platform to put forward their COVID conspiracy theories!)

Pros

The location was very convenient

Cons

The workplace culture was challenging and, in my experience, lacked professionalism, inclusivity, and mutual respect from the first day I joined. I found there to be a cliquey environment that made it difficult for some employees to feel supported and succeed. There were instances of passive-aggressive behaviour and conduct that I felt undermined collaboration and morale. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this organisation to prospective applicants. Since leaving, I have worked for an employer that promotes fairness, respect, and employee wellbeing, with a strong commitment to preventing workplace bullying and harassment. The contrast has highlighted the importance of a positive and supportive working environment.
