Pros

Pros of the job inlcude great hourly pay. Pay is based off of load where each class depending on hours taught is given a specific load. A 4 unit lecture course is a .1 load, roughly $5000-$6000.

Cons

Currently there is a trend of lower student population, thus fewer and fewer courses are being offered. Limited courses means that full time employees have to maintain their full load, bumping part time instructors from their usual classes. .67 academic year is the most a PT can teach. However, very few can even get to that load level with the class reductions. Benefits used to be paid in full if you taught over a .5 load. Now they pay a percentage where I currently have to pay $800/month for a family of 4 and they pay the remaining.
