Pros

Great company if you are looking at following and learning about procedures and guidelines. Knowledge based community is great but out of date. more upto date knowledge can be found on the web though. They potray themselves as the best but in the best of times they had the least work.

Cons

Progression based on who you know and not on performance appraisal. Promos mainly based on ratings behind your back. If you entertained the seniors or directors outside work you would for sure get a good rating and hence a promotion. Therefore ethics and integrity is not respected. Management not willing to new ideas in executing work in order to be competative. Management at office level are too comfortable in their positions such that they are not willing to new ideas or changes. Flour is so big that investment in technology is probably behind by about 12 years reducing efficiency.

Pros

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Cons

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
