Pros

Usually a fun work environment, work hard play hard Decent amount of freedom and independence in day to day work as long as quotas are met The people can be nice, with opportunities to socialize, if you don't sit at your desk all day working, you'll be more likely to thrive.

Cons

Depending on the manager you could just be left to have too much freedom, to the point that you may end up at your desk all day working with not nearly as much recognition. Whether you succeed or fail can purely be because of your own drive to succeed and make connections, and not nearly as often as a result of support from within the office. Solar can often be a place of sales, numbers, easily identifiable results, and can more easily produce an environment where you're likely to be used if you're useful rather than supported. Self discipline, working well under pressure, and knowing how to work well and play with co-workers to make sure your work is recognized is as important if not more than learning the nitty gritty of the job itself. Knowing how to work a customer to get the results you want also means those that have been around longer know this as well, and can be prone to make use of those talents to either be an obstacle you may not overcome, or a path to upward growth if you make the right connections to prevent yourself from being used. Solar often isn't a place where morality and ethics are put at the forefront, and that can leave you with many edge cases you'll run across where a homeowner was nickled and dimed, and can often mean time spent in the office is spent putting out fires instead of building trust with more homeowners so that better communication leads to better outcomes when a worst case scenario occurs, leaving you to play catch up and to pick up the pieces. The more you know your way around people, the more likely you are to succeed, but also the more you'll be aware of how others might be being manipulated for gain, so it can be an emotionally taxing job at times. At the $17 an hour I was making, the pay wasn't personally worth the stress, and only exceedingly small paths to advancement presented themselves. The more effort you put into the job without having that work recognized by co-workers, the less you'll get out of the job, the pay can be good to get you by, but it depends on what you're looking to get out of it.
