Pros
- #1 pro is Nuclear stuff is just cool and the work itself is interesting and rewarding when you separate the work itself from management - Almost unlimited Overtime is available if you like that - Good experience and exposure to exotic materials and new processes and equipment - Some really great people who work hard and will help you with anything - You do get pension in addition to 401k - Flexibility with schedule have 3 shifts and are usually allowed to come early or stay late as you wish within reason - if you do Join i suggest 2nd shift as you get 10% more money with shift pay and the 2nd shift workers are more of a team than at each-others throats like 1st plus the 2nd shift leads have always been pretty good until they quit - Honestly is Great for a resume builder (Only reason why i am still here for now)
Cons
My objective observations are as such - Watch your back… very closely, always someone lurking in the shadows - Arbitrary Mandatory Saturdays ( Flowserve is your life now) you MUST come finish this valve so it can sit in the shipping department for a year! All while your boss and the whole office are at home sleeping in Workplace Politics are irritating on 1st shift- - Its always the Welder’s fault! Always - Paid every 2 weeks - Did i mention lots of grinding? T- Welders are treated like bottom of the barrel laborers - They cater to newer employees seems like not worth building a future to stay 10 years or more only for them to hire new welders to train who also start top dollar - Shady business practices, Hr is useless and lies to your face - Corporate Hr tried to get select employees to write favorable Glassdoor reviews because of their bad track record here - Management threatens write ups and terminations and also blacklists employees who discuss salary because the pay rates are all over the place, a new Welder can be $8 higher than a seasoned welder and that's not an exaggeration -Also there is the issue of rolling the dice with opportunities, some welders can pass qualification tests easily and not get a chance while others get countless opportunities even through failing weld tests. - There is a reason that most of the senior welders have quit and the shop is filled with New welders - Refused to promote welders to a recent vacant welding supervisor position, instead outside hired and he will most likely be gone in a year anyway but we will see.
