Great company with a strong engineering culture - Software Engineer Fleetsmith Employee Review

Pros

Our engineering manager greatly values fundamental understanding, theoretical knowledge, and thorough testing, and gives new engineers the time to obtain this understanding. The Product and Technical Project Managers also support engineers making their own milestones and stories in pursuit of larger goals, which is more motivating than if deadlines are simply imposed. There is a very laid-back office culture and we don't take ourselves too seriously, meetings are often punctuated with laughter (without detracting from their overall focus). Last but not least, there are three super-cute dogs in the office!

Cons

The only con I can think of is that there is only free lunch once a week, although this is amply made up for by there being free dinner from Doordash at 6 PM.

Pros

Lots of great things at Fleetsmith. The company is growing at a pace that rivals other best-in-class SaaS businesses. The vision is fairly focused, and provides direction for the company as a whole. Comp and benefits are about as good as you'll get at a startup of this size - market cash and equity with solid benefits, but nothing close to the Facebooks or Googles of the world. Talent is good - some great, some okay, meets a fairly high standard; wouldn't describe as "the next big thing" where the best-of-the-best are racing to be, but sets the minimum bar quite high. The people are nice almost across the board - few to none in the company would fall under the buckets of a*hole or extremely low EQ. Work life balance is great, significantly better than most companies of this caliber. Most of the time, a touch over the normal 40 hour work week, with fairly flexible hours. Occasional need to put in extra time. PTO policy is very liberal and people take a healthy amount of time off.

Cons

The company suffers from the same issues that many in this stage face. Too many priorities to choose from, a continual feeling of minor anxiety as the company propels itself with forward momentum without ever being fully balanced. Sometimes the focus of the company jumps from one thing to the next a little haphazardly, or a bit wobbly. Many of its leaders are in their roles for the first time, and as such, sometimes have some holes in where they focus, or are still developing as leaders. Communication from management could be a bit more transparent.
