Pros

I have only just started at Five Rivers Environmental Contracting, however my experience so far has been the best I've ever had. All of my colleagues are welcoming and friendly and have been really helpful in supporting me through my first days here. On my first day I had a meeting with the head of HR, to discuss everything I would need to know, including: staff benefits, holiday, absence, pay etc. I was also supplied with everything I would need to do my job within the first hour of arriving on site, and this really helped when it came to starting training and getting a handle on the role I'll be working in.

Cons

I've yet to find any.

Pros

Inclusive, progressive, relaxed culture. The ecology team exude genuine passion, enthusiasm and knowledge for/of the natural environment and all share the ultimate goal of enhancing, restoring and protecting it to the best of their ability. They are a really awesome group of people to work with. The variety of the work is also a massive pro, different projects one week to the next. One week you'll be conducting fish surveys on a beautiful chalk stream, the next you could be doing a water vole survey or seine netting a huge lake!

Cons

The main one would have to be the large amount of driving/travelling we have to do different sites/projects. We operate across the country but are based in the south, this can result in a lot of very early starts/late finishes with a lot of driving in between. We also stay away a lot which is nice when it's all confirmed/booked in advance with due time to prepare, but due to the fluidity of the work, things can change at the drop of a hat and you may be suddenly staying away for a week on very short notice.
