Common Sense Prevails - Underwriter First Union Employee Review

First Union has a great training program and provides plenty of individual hands on training for the right people. I started off as a funding specialist and have now been moved up to an underwriter. First Union promotes from within every time they can and I have seen many of colleagues incomes grow as a result. The atmosphere is super fun, laid back and we aren't micro-managed. As long as we produce we are given the opportunity to move at our own pace. The pay is great and the bonus structure is amazing. There are times when out of nowhere at the end of the month I receive a bonus check that is amazing. The culture is great, we play golf and games and even cornhole which we play for cash prizes and everyone is very friendly.

Sometimes it's hard to tear yourself away from all the fun we are having to get back to work. I live far away and getting home at night in traffic can take longer than getting here does. When we get busy, we get really busy and the clients are non stop so while it is great for my pocket, we do have our drill down and work hard times.

Everyone really goes out of their way to help learn new things. The people are really competitive but really friendly. I make great money and I don't have a college degree so I thought it would be impossible to make this much. I learn about sales and sales psychology just about every day. I'm definitely increasing my skills. Also the hours are really good. They made it so we can leave work on Fridays at 4 and we don't have to work weekends or holidays. The manager and owners are teaching us alot about the small business finance industry and we learn new things every day. There is definitely room to grow and advance here. We have health insurance and pto. Everyone is learning a lot and everybody seems really happy. The manager really wants every one to be successful and make alot of money and helps us do that.

There's no vision or dental yet. Our manager says it's coming though. It's kind of far from where I live.
