Pros

-You can connect with some great people -Good short-term, entry level/day job -Opportunity for growth I worked for First Capitol Consulting for more than seven years, so I know a bit about the company and have a lot to say. I have more Cons than Pros, but I have to point out that my tenure was long because this wasn’t always a bad place to work. I also have to say that I met some great people working here. Many have moved on, so let that be an indicator of how the company treats some its better employees. Also consider that many (or all) of the positive Glassdoor reviews come in noticeable waves from current employees. I could have given FCCI an overall score of two stars, but I have docked one because of the unbalanced reviews.

Cons

-Pay -Benefits -Tech Resources -You may be overwhelmed if you are responsible for too many "hats" -You may be underwhelmed if you have a low workload -High turnover -Some promotions go to unqualified employees to immediately fill vacancies I probably should have moved on sooner; my energy and effort far exceeded the rewards at FCCI for quite some time. There are many different experiences here, which can be dependent on your position, your department or how well liked you are. Favoritism runs deep. There are some very favored employees who seem they can do no wrong and wield a lot of power, sometimes undeservingly so. The "work hard, play hard" ethos is tossed around way too much. Workloads can vary drastically between departments and seasons. Some people are fine as long as they appear busy. Staying late, for instance, is looked upon as a positive. However, just being present doesn't always equal being productive, so you could hypothetically screw around all day, stay after hours and still look good. On the same token, there are many who put in long hours and weekends but probably wouldn't have to if the company chose to work smarter, take a step back and find ways to improve efficiency. The CEO is normally nice, especially towards women (the only benefit of workplace sexism), but he’s also very reactive, and is prone to mood swings and emotional outbursts. There is a disconnect between departments, between management and employees--there are even employees who don't know what the company does. A lot of issues are swept under the guise of the "startup" nature of the company. This is not a true startup, and while the company tries to recast itself as such, the culture and business practices do not follow suit. As far as resources go, tools for productivity are definitely lacking. For instance, there has been a ridiculously low 20MB internet bandwidth shared amongst all the employees for years, with nothing done to address it except demands to use less internet. Considering the company has build a web-based platform, this is incredibly embarrassing. [Since the CEO is so reactive, hopefully he’ll react to this callout and pony up for some more bandwidth.] There are many other issues, but I think this is more than enough to give a glimpse into how the company is run.

Pros

First Capitol is a business that's been around for a while, and is now growing like never before. It won't be a "small" business for very much longer--so if one is looking for a well-established company with strong opportunities for career growth, this is the place to be. First Capitol is indeed a technology company; it has developed cutting-edge software that no other company has, and has more on the way. Technology people at First Capitol get to have an immediate effect on the business and get to build innovative products and services that will change the face of an entire industry--immensely helping all manner of businesses. What's better than that?

Cons

It's not silicon beach. Is that a pro? Could be. It's a rapidly growing company and change and turnover is a part of that.

Pros

I came to FCCI because I was blown away by the intelligence and creativity of the staff. Nearly everyday I am wowed by the smart people that work here - not just in conventional terms - but an additional willingness to challenge themselves to think outside the box. An additional important factor for me is that this company does social good. The products FCCI has developed, such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit service and the Affordable Care Act compliance service help employers do great things for their employees. FCCI is a regtech company dedicated to using its data consolidation and analysis platforms to do things like create new products, make existing processes faster, and remove financial barriers to compliance with government programs and laws. This is a great place to work for people interested in doing things no one else is doing.

Cons

One thing that I have read in other reviews is that there is a sense of favoritism. I don't think this is right. My view is that there are some people at this company who have literally fought tooth and nail for its success over many years. Although the company was founded in 1999, it really started to flourish in 2012 - 2013 when leadership began exploring ACA reporting and expanding the WOTC services. The good thing about this is that there is plenty of room for people to succeed and the company outlook is great.
