Pros
Building meaningful relationships with the consumers, pay (kind of), benefits
Cons
Pay (The pay is decent but not nearly enough for the sheer amount of responsibilities put on someone's shoulders as a DSA), long hours, constant mandates, pushing the boundaries of labor laws especially with Covid (people getting stuck on 24 hour shifts while claiming it's a staffing emergency). Employee turnover is high d/t constant mistreatment of the staff. Not enough new hires come in to replace the sheer amount of people leaving. Constant high stress situations with no payoff. Mismanagement is probably the worst I've ever seen in an agency. No social or family life due to constant 16 hour shifts. Unless you have over a decade in you will generally be stuck working evening or night shifts, working weird split shifts, and working all of the holidays.
