Pros

You get to work with some very talented folks and try to solve some interesting problems for an industry that needs better solutions.

Cons

Federato is incredible at marketing. That said, the marketing is way ahead of what the product can actually do. They have built a highly flexible framework that I would not call a vertical SaaS solution. They rely on an army of Forward Deployed Engineers to implement it in a bespoke way for each customer. There are three times as many FDEs as product engineers which should tell you that there is a problem with their approach. Building the product is a strange exercise at Federato. The CEO is the decision maker. Teams are basically executing on his whims (sometimes mistaken for vision). These teams are ephemeral and have to constantly context switch. We lurch from one deadline to another - mainly focused on being able to build a demo that can be shown to prospects/customers. The product is never complete and features remain in this demo state as folks get reassigned to work on the next deadline. It is exhausting and demoralizing. Teams are rarely exposed to customers which leaves a lot of context missing from the 'why' you are building something. So the product is half-baked, kludgy and leaves a lot of gaps that create user frustration.
