Pros

Loved working with the design team- amazing group of individuals

Cons

I want to start off by saying all of the negative reviews (even the ones from several years ago) are ALL TRUE. All of the good reviews, are written by the COO, who thrives on making people miserable. What is so unfortunate about Faulkner Design Group, is that they do a really great job of hiring amazing and genuine employees, and then do everything in their power to manipulate and brainwash them. I believe that the owner wants to be a good person and do the right thing, but since the COO has come into power, she’s sucked the life out of all that is good of FDG. Sure, they pay for middle of the road health insurance, and the hours are “flexible” ... but I would never spend another day of my life in that toxic environment. All of the senior level managers are also a huge part of the problem at this company. They’ve been at this company since graduating from college, or not long after, and they’re so afraid of the unknown and going to another company, that they’ll do whatever CEO and COO ask of them, even if it’s ethically incorrect.

Faulkner Design Group Response

The words used in this review are truly disconcerting. If you want to be a leading designer and work with an “amazing group of individuals,” there’s no better place to be than Faulkner Design Group. Our salaries are at the top of the measurement scale in the industry and our benefits can’t be matched. Yes, you receive highly-rated health insurance and time off, remembering of course that you need to take vacations for your own personal health. FDG also provides flexible hours, especially in emergency situations, and in your next job, I’m not sure you will experience the same level of bonuses that FDG extends to employees. Most importantly, at FDG you immediately get to work on high-profile design projects because we believe in a system of teams that are managed and mentored by seasoned designers. You’ve given us reasons to think, however, about our culture, work ethic, and employee rewards and benefits, even for our newest employees. For some recent graduates, these are not valued extras in the workplace and some might prefer a 9-5 job in what I would call a “Do This” operation where you get your to-do list and go home so you can keep your free time always in control. Those positions exist, but there aren’t many, especially if you hope to grow your abilities and skills quickly in this competitive industry. Good luck to you. Check back with us in ten years. I would love to hear your perspective then.

Pros

Little to no overtime. Easy projects. Elevated sense of design for some projects. Excellent work life balance and awesome healthcare dental benefits. CEO is passionate about helping the less fortunate and will encourage employees to contribute to worthy causes. Generally pleasant colleagues with several people having tenure. Great view of highland park and downtown Dallas from every angle in office. Lots of employee appreciation events. CEO preaches gratitude and encourages others to self reflect on positives of work and life.

Cons

Upper management, with exception of one director and CEO, difficult to work with. Some of the ‘fun’ activities are a little odd to see in corporate environment, such as sharing hotel rooms with other employees. Technology outdated, with support outsourced and activity closely monitored to prevent an unlikely scenario of corporate espionage. No remote work capacity. Extreme paranoia about employees having samples of work for portfolio even when a written request is made. Some projects are great examples of mass produced recycled designs. Frequent employee turnover, likely due to factors above. Not much room for vertical career growth and salary increases, likely because that money is allocated to employee appreciation events, odd ‘fun’ events, and lavish lifestyle of C-suite.
