Pros

In the past this company was highly regarded. Unfortunately the negatives are outweighing the positives.

Cons

Changes in recent years have contributed to the long list of cons. Promotions for employees with little to no experience, and no promotion opportunities for the people at the bottom. Overworked employees are now working even more due to the decisions of the company and the inability to replace people who have left. “Inclusive” culture they are striving for has been unsuccessful. It used to be impossible to get fired, but now personal and religious beliefs are not taken into account, and not enough to keep a job here. The premature decision to fire dedicated employees rather than offering the possibility of covid testing or mask wearing in an office (like the federal mandate suggested before it was blocked) is extremely unfortunate. Many employees were also forced into early retirement by December only to find out that most of the company is still working from home until at least March. There are many companies that care about their employees, but lately FM Global doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Pros

* Great business model at the foundation * Solid compensation program: Base salary + bonus * Sustained high profitability over the long term * Stable employement * Pension Plan

Cons

* Extremely hierarchical and regimented * Promotions based on favortism rather than true merit. Employees are precategorized and stigmatized on their ability for future career progression. * Extremely focused on metrics and internal objectives. This leads to box checking, cutting corners and bending rules to meet the numbers. * Extremely heavy workload. No work-life balance. * Management doesn't really incorporate employee feedback; they pretend to to check a box. * Quality of job suffers to keep up with quantity. Everything is becoming data driven and the data is often wrong. Enormous pressure to hit a button and accept at face value whatever the system spews out. * Our CEO builds fancy gold plated office buildings that aren't needed and pulled the plug on hybrid work to justify the investment in the real estate.
