Pros

If your supervisor of record likes you and you have a fairly distributed workload: you can get a lot done manageably, keep a schedule of your choosing, and partake in the endless chit-chat and gossip. Pay is good at the GS-12 and above equivalents depending on locality. During telework (may be reinstituted) the work-life balance was really good for many workers.

Cons

Absent Leadership The main criterion for advancement seems to be mainly if you look older or more machismo. Many middle managers simply outlasted everyone else and appear to have no training nor the interest in being objective, responsible, and fair. Leadership is overwhelmingly white men. The main criterion for success is whether or not your manager likes you. If you’re not teacher’s per, life will suck. Racism, Sexism, Hostility A lot of the local whites appear to be as hateful and prejudiced as any pessimist would think. Trashy, aggressive, and dismissive behavior is widely common, including sexually vulgar and profane comments and remarks. Guys talk about the women employees on the floor, and sexist jokes get told, including by the women in higher positions. Yelling happens all the time. Again, depends entirely on who has power. One bump on a log actually tells people to “shut up,” even in response to his inappropriate questions. Nope, he’s not a manager. Many of the white and Latino workers complain about black employees only being warm or professional toward other black employees, which means the first two groups are either racist (possible) or there may be an element of truth to the grievance. Asians, LBGTQIA, disabled and other minorities receive constant micro aggressions from all of the above. There are definitely many prejudiced whites making remarks about immigrants and Muslims, and just generally ignorant and low class behavior in general. Deployments You will be given 24 hour notice to get to your deployment destination, officially; notice is precalculated ane auto-sent later in the dead of night, and often on weekends. In effect, be ready to deploy in 12 hours. Managers magically exempt themselves from these and other requirements. “Every Employee is an Emergency Manager” my tokus. Performance Ratings are a joke because Teams cannot be screenshot and supervisors will make up whatever rating they want to for you. Nobody will call their bluff, in case all the previous examples didn't sink in.

Pros

Work life balance is good. You come, you do your work, you go home. Casual work environment. Hybrid, but a lot of flexibility to be remote

Cons

If you're not ex-Military or an older white man, you'll have respect performed to you but not actually given. You might be in the room, but you'll be ignored or talked over.
