Pros

Interesting work, brilliant and talented colleagues, opportunities to travel

Cons

If you like exciting work with often unreasonable deadlines, if you like working at a company that rewards the few and uses the majority, if you like a carrot continually dangled in front of you but rarely given, if you like working nights and weekends, if you like someone else taking credit for your efforts, if you like being ignored, if you like charging exorbitant rates to clients but getting paid an almost insulting salary, if you like getting pressured to generate work but restricted in doing so,, if you like dealing with managers with no power and/or no management qualifications then you’re looking at the right place. There’s a handful of reasons to work here, and a truckload of reasons to avoid this company. Find another employment option that will appreciate you for your work, and reward you accordingly. Don’t let this review dissuade you from considering Exponent as an employment option; do your own research. Take a look at the turnover rate in consultants and support staff. Take a look at the average-at-best benefits. Take a look at the less than impressive salaries, especially in offices in high cost areas like NY, CA, MA, WA. Why am I still working there? I’m one of the lucky ones who has been fortunate enough to have a niche that enables me to mostly avoid the abundance of cons and benefit from the very few pros about the company.

Pros

Many consultants successfully use Exponent as a stepping stone to larger tech companies. The project work can sometimes be very interesting and some consultants appreciate overtime and bonuses for long hours (albeit many feel they would earn more overall compensation at larger tech companies).

Cons

The company has very high expectations of its consultants and doesn't always provide the resources necessary to achieve their expectations. In order to grow after the first few years, consultants are generally expected to generate their own business, but some junior consultants feel they are not fairly given credit for business they help bring in. Many consultants feel the performance rewards are too delayed.
