Pros
The only pros of this program are your fellow staff members and what I mean by that is the same people who work as counselors and teachers. The upper management is some of the worst people possible and they will make your job a living hell. The kids at times make it worthwhile as you meet some truly amazing ones. Hanging out with them or playing games really releases some stress. This job pushes you mentally and you can grow a lot from it as a person. Helps you to really realize what your limits are. Teaches you how to advocate for yourself in professional settings
Cons
Management is racist, homophobic, and sexist. They target the staff of color and favor the white staff over them. If you are a person of color they have no regard for your time or physical wellbeing (even if you are terribly sick they expect you to work or make up for the time you were out). Management is hypocritical and will not hesitate to scream at you in front of the children or gossip about you to get you into trouble. There were times when my white colleagues were 30 minutes late to their shift with no repercussions. But as I was walking to my job with two minutes to sphere and I was less than 5 feet away from where I was supposed to be, they proceeded to call and yell at me. If you don't advocate for yourself they will walk over and take advantage of you. You have no free time, you work 24 hours a day. I am not even kidding. There is no personal and work balance. Not to mention they do not provide the materials you need as instructors to teach the class. Head management has told staff that they could leave if they wanted as they wouldn't be missed. The majority of it is highly performative. Your voice will not be heard. You will not be respected. You will not be giving fair and safe working conditions. The women staff members were put below the male staff members and given the stereotypical "women are more maternal" jobs. You are not paid enough for the amount of work you do. Most of the children are rich snotty ones who have no repercussions for disrespecting the staff whether physically or verbally. Management is not there to guide you, they set you up for failure in order to have a reason to put "strikes " against you. For those who were teachers, they did not have the class materials ready especially for the stem-based classes. Instructors had to come up with things on the spot and also did not know what the hell they were doing. Explo will force you to teach subjects you have no experience in despite there being someone else qualified. Favoritism was highly evident. If you don't value your mental health and personal safety, Explo is the place for you.
