Pros

Seriously great location right in the heart of Milwaukee. Work hours can be flexible, and office holidays are generous. Good benefits, solid vacation time, and with a short work day (7.5 hrs), work-life balance is plenty achievable. Executive Director, Inc. (EDI) promotes from within. After being in a position for a year, employees may apply for positions with other clients, lateral or upwards. Professional development and networking opportunities are valued, and made available to those who are interested in growing in the association management field. There is potential for both domestic and international travel, depending on the client and job title. If you're thinking about working here: research what an Association Management company is if you're not familiar.

Cons

The process of approval from other departments (i.e. web and graphics) can delay projects, especially when depending on them so much. Maternity leave is at a typical 60% salary, but could be better.

Pros

EDI employs staff to work directly with medical/research non-profits, giving employees the incredible opportunity to help its clients realize their vision. Culture is very supportive - EDI supports professional development and membership in related organizations for its employees to help them continually grow and say on top of trends. They provide pathways for staff to be promoted and grow within the company. They offer a variety of opportunities from meetings logistics to committee management to meeting planning to medical writing and more. I've worked there for over 15 years and have had an incredible experience with the company as well as with the volunteers we serve.

Cons

No cons currently. Over the last 15+ years that I've been here, EDI has worked hard to support employees and respond to suggestions for improvement. For example, most positions are able to work remotely up to 3 days a week. EDI is also continuously updating technologies and systems to allow staff to efficiently do their work.

Pros

The organization's employees are its greatest strength.

Cons

Leadership culture was the biggest issue. In my experience, favoritism mattered more than experience, expertise, performance, or results. Employees who aligned closely with leadership appeared to receive more opportunities and recognition than those who simply did strong work. Compensation was below market for the level of responsibility expected. Technology and internal systems were significantly behind industry standards, creating daily inefficiencies and frustrations. Despite ongoing issues, there did not appear to be meaningful urgency to modernize systems or improve the employee experience. The organization's approach to emerging technologies such as AI felt more restrictive than forward-looking, which raised concerns about its ability to adapt to changes in the industry.
